New Year's Day 2019
Happy New Year! Happy New Beginning!
Today, the year is a newborn.
How will we choose to dress it, to feed it, to teach it, to learn from it?
To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best.
- William Arthur Ward
Don't Wait!
Start on your dreams, your impulses,
your longings, your special occasions today.
Because this is your moment.

Share the Season - Share Yourself
Is there someone who will be alone this Christmas unless you share your holiday with them? Invite them to spend the day with you.
One must know not just how to accept a gift,
but with what grace to share it.
- Maya Angelou
The wise man does not lay up his own treasures.
The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own.
- Lao Tzu
Spending the holidays without family can feel depressing. If you are not with your family this holiday, take positive steps to feel good about yourself: affirm your self worth, spend time with your religious (or community) group, and extend yourself to be of service to the less fortunate.
Giving is the highest expression of our power.
- Vivian Greene
Among its other benefits,
giving liberates the soul of the giver.

Holiday Season
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree
is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
- Burton Hills
What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store.
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
- Dr. Seuss
The holiday season promotes
a heightened sense of community.
It draws our chins up and
helps us look above and over
the limiting fence of our own events,
activities and preoccupations.
The opportunity for a heroic gesture
can tap you quietly on the shoulder
in the midst of a holiday bustle.
If you are attentive,
you will notice the gentle touch
and will be able to respond. Remember...
There are no small acts of kindness.
Every compassionate act makes large the world.

Happy Holidays to All
May God grant you always...
A sunbeam to warm you,
a moonbeam to charm you,
a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you.
Laughter to cheer you.
Faithful friends near you.
And whenever you pray,
Heaven to hear you.
- Irish Blessing
Guide our feet into the way of peace.
- Luke 1:79
You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
- Matthew 5:43-44
May you be joyful. May peace be with you. Pass the peace to all those around you.

Mary Anne Radmacher: Welcome the return of those uninformed dreams
"I guess everything comes back again, once we have thoroughly exhausted all the alternatives." Dallas, wrote to me. (Dallas is Dallas Dellinger Hlatky)
By sifting through my relentless new questions in this day, perhaps I will be lucky enough to see all the sparkly dreams of my youth "come back." Welcome the return of those uninformed dreams that don't understand profit and loss statements and product trend curves and fourth quarter projections. Those dreams that get shuffled under admonitions like "be realistic," and "you have to be practical," and "There's so much to do with the holidays here." All those dreams that, once remembered, make everything sharper, smellier and more enthusiastic.
Yes, Dallas, everything comes back again. In this holiday season I want to invite the gifts of my most profound and meaningful dreams into my daily experience. "I have dreamed in my life, dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they have gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the color of my mind." Emily Bronte

Mary Anne Radmacher: AS I PREPARE FOR THE NEW YEAR
I recognize that it is a cultural event that celebrates the transition from one night at midnight to the dawn of the following day with such fanfare. In truth, New Year's Eve is just another transition from one day to another. That it has become a marking point for clarifying values and identifying ways of betterment is something of a unique opportunity.
As I prepare for 2009 I want to fully articulate the roads and ways, which will travel me to my best self.
I want to be authentic and live openly, directed with my passions and priorities but without rigid agenda; I want to love with a strong sense of my own internally, fully calibrated compass;
I want to embrace the opportunities of 2009 with unfurled love and vanquished fear. I welcome discipline and ease to the front of the classroom of my days and invite visiting instructors to draw out the finest parts of my soul.
In 2009 I offer continuous gentle invitations to myself...to become the most inspired version of my self possible.
In all my ways of seeing - may I use new glasses, a telescope and a microscope. And my I always allow myself to see a circumstance through the tender hearts of my friends.

Mary Anne Radmacher: THE GIFT OF SEEING
Remember the difference between looking and seeing.
Remember that holiday weekend when you said yes to several different invitations and you accepted them all? Showed up at all of them, all the while, glancing at your watch to time your exit to reach the next party? Okay. Maybe you have never done that, but I have. The net result was that I showed up but wasn't really present. Oops.
I think one of the finest gifts I can give my friends in the holiday season is to pause with a long enough quality to actually SEE them. My calm, unhurried presence communicates this gift of a message, "I see you. I recognize you. I remember our times of together and am contributing right now to another quality memory. I value you and honor and take the time, right this moment to pause long enough to truly notice you."

The skills to discover what you need to know;
Beneath you
Knowledge of land to root you and guide you;

Around you
Always
The love of your family.
