Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
- George Bernard Shaw
The soul would have no rainbow,
Had the eyes no tears.
- John Vance Cheney

- Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Today, I am profoundly grateful for ALL of life. I am thankful for everything good in my life. I am also thankful for everything that I perceive as "bad," for those elements sharpen the quality of my experience of life. My painful experiences both provide a contrast that heightens the more enjoyable aspects of life, and also become my teacher to constantly refine my thoughts and actions along the road of life.
Without the contrast and stimulus of life challenges, my life would become like a stagnant pond, and I become like a log floating in it. I am grateful that life is more like a raging river, with sharp drops and quick turns.
