The first weapon is choosing to see the lesson and the joy in each occurrence in your life.
The second is taking the time to find your moments of serenity and calm. Yes, that means making the choice of not doing something else, but do it anyway. Choose serenity.
Very good advice for everyone, especially in 2009.
ReplyDeletePart of having serenity in our lives is placing our lives in God's hands.

Right Truth
I let the peace of God dwell in my heart, and
ReplyDeleteI refuse to worry about anything. His yoke is
easy and His burden is light.
As an atheist, I won't find help in any god but look inside myself to find the courage to choose to be serene. I ask myself to abide by a different serenity poem:
ReplyDeleteAccept the people I cannot change.
Change the one I can and
Have the wisdom to know it is me.
Sometimes the person needing to be changed is ourself and that can be the hardest of all.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, no, part of having serenity in my life is definitely NOT placing my life in someone else's hands. I'm not religious, and I'm sure many other people reading this aren't either. Perhaps next time you could simply speak for yourself instead of including everyone in your religious beliefs by writing "we". Many thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteBesides that, I find serenity in the admiration of natural beauty, wondering at all the marvels of life, and appreciating what's truly important - family, friends, love, fun, happiness, doing what's right, and keeping an eye on the big picture... the last one helps me see over the petty problems which destroy serenity.
The last three Anonymous writers, to me, make
ReplyDeletethe most sense. Thanks ever so much for

...this reminds me of what our scriptures say :
ReplyDelete" Between successive thoughts or desires,
there’s a brief interlude of tranquility.Go
find yourself there.”
- Bhagavad Gita
YES, thank you. That glimpse into the ultimate that comes between thoughts is so revealing. It is the basis for meditation, which attempts to expand that moment by creating fewer thoughts and more space between them.
ReplyDeleteTo the self confessed atheist and the 'not religious' person - you're living in a fool's paradise.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you'll realise that GOD exists and has always existed before it's too late........
Where do you think you came from and who do you think grants you your everyday breath and who is it that you think sustains you? YOU!! We are nothing with GOD ALMIGHTY.
GOD brought you into being. You are only fooling yourself and playing into Satan's hands with your disbelief.
To Anonymous...that's well said! Truly GOD exist and provide everything that mankind needs. Woe to that ungrateful soul..!
